AASCU Council of State Representatives
The policy analysis and advising efforts of AASCU’s Division of Government Relations and Policy Analysis are greatly informed by the Association’s Council of State Representatives, which includes representation from all 50 states and U.S. territories. The higher education leaders that comprise the Council consist of college and university presidents and chancellors, system heads, and state coordinating board executives. The Council helps formulate and recommend the Association’s annual Public Policy Agenda, and its members assist AASCU staff in carrying out the agenda’s legislative priorities through contacts with stakeholders and members, including the Federal government and members of Congress.
The Council regularly advises staff on topical issues of public policy that affect public colleges and universities and serves as an immediate resource for advice on emerging federal or state legislative matters. . The Council meets each fall in conjunction with AASCU’s Annual Meeting, and a mid-year meeting of the Council is held each spring in Washington, DC. At the mid-year meeting, members have the opportunity to meet with their congressional representatives and to hear from and discuss policy issues with colleagues, federal officials, congressional staff and members.
The current chair of the AASCU Council of State Representatives is Dr. Jolene Koester, President, California State University–Northridge. For information on the Council and its mid-year meeting, contact Rose Jordan at jordanr@aascu or (202) 478-4654.
